I enrolled in the portfolio option, but I would like to change to the credits option. Can I do this?
A participant can change from either option within 6 months of registering; however, the registration date remains the original date.
Do I re-register after assessment or does it carry on automatically?
A member must re-register for every 2 year period and pay the appropriate fee.
When I re-register can I change options?
Every 2 year period, participants have the opportunity to choose whichever option suits their circumstances.
I have chosen the credits option. Do I have to gain 15 credits per year, or is it 30 credits over 2 years?
You need to gain 30 credits over the 2 year period. You will gain 6 credits from the mandatory section. It does not matter how the remainder of the credits are spread so long as you have not exceeded the maximum number of credits allowed per annum in any one section.
I am doing the Credits option. Do I need to complete the professional development plan and evaluation?
Yes. This is a new requirement as of 1 August 2008 for all new and re- registrations. You must submit your CV, CPD plan and evaluation when you send your Credits Activity Record in at the end of the 2 year period.
I am on maternity leave. Do I still have to do my CPD or can I apply for an extension?
You may choose not to do your CPD while on maternity leave, but you must apply in writing to the CPD Administrator for an extension equal to the duration of your maternity leave.
I have been on extended sick leave. Can I apply for an extension to my CPD?
Yes. You need to apply in writing to the CPD Administrator and enclose a copy of your medical certificate.
Do activities listed in Section 2.5 (Workplace Based Programme) need prior NZIMRT approval in order for me to gain the credits?
Provided that the attendance is recorded and certified by your workplace, and an evaluation form is completed, NZIMRT approval of the programme is not required.
I have to do CPR annually to complete my workplace requirements. Does this qualify for CPD?
This is listed under Section 2.5 - gaining or renewing a certificate of competence is allocated 1 credit per activity.
We have a new CT scanner in the department and I have participated in the applications training. Does this qualify for CPD credits?
Formal applications' training is allocated a maximum of 2 credits per annum, per modality. (Section 2.6).
I am a general MRT and have undertaken clinical training in CT. Does this accrue CPD credits?
Yes. It comes under Section 2.5 'induction clinical Training' and accrues 2 credits per year per modality.
I am the Health and Safety (H&S) Officer at my workplace. Does this role accrue CPD credits?
No, the role itself does not accrue credits as it will be an expected part of a job description that staff has roles of responsibility. Any training or workshops attended through holding the role do accrue credits as per Section 2.5.
I have more than one scope of practice. Do I need to do CPD for each scope?
No, but your CPD must reflect all your scopes.
I am a financial NZIMRT member. Can I claim the 1 credit per year, each year of the 2 year period?
Yes, Section 4 activities are all able to be claimed per year.
I am doing my CBA for MRI. Does this qualify for CPD credits?
No, as the CBA is a requirement for registration for the MR scope of practice for those members who have performed MR for 5 years or more. It is a final test that recognises the competency level that has come from prior learning and practice.
I am doing the portfolio option. Do I need to complete the professional development plan?
Yes, the completion of the 'Professional Development Plan' is compulsory. The plan / strategy provides an opportunity to plan your CPD and think more formally about the direction you would like your career to take at the commencement of your two year period. At the conclusion of the two year period you may find that your resultant portfolio differs significantly from your initial plan / strategy. This is to be expected, as different opportunities arise in your career. Providing an evaluation of what you achieved, or didn't achieve, commenting on obstacles encountered and what you learned from the whole process is an important aspect of your overall professional development.
I am doing the portfolio but I don't know if I'm writing up my activities correctly. How do I know if I'm doing it right?
Members of the CPD Panel are happy to evaluate your work and offer assistance or advice at any stage - contact the CPD Administrator: nzimrt@nzimrt.co.nz
I am going overseas - What should I do about my CPD?
You need to decide what you are doing with your APC. If you are keeping your APC 'live' you need to continue doing CPD. Both the Credits and Portfolio option are flexible enough for overseas activities to fit the criteria. If you are not maintaining your APC then you are not required to maintain CPD in New Zealand.
